URBAN OASIS - first look

Here is the first concept of Urban Oasis designed by one of the young people in the program...

Plans coming together

Hey folks, people we talk to are really starting to get excited about the Urban Oasis Concept and the Community it will provide for our Young People. During the coming months we will start raising some funds to get the ball really rolling. We will be running a number of small Community meetings where we will share our vision with potential partners and supporter. Please get out there and tell people about what is happening so we can make this dream become a reality,

thanks
Stewart

THANK YOU STEWART!

THIS IS GREAT!

Creators not Consumers

I found a link to an online edition of one of the fundamental texts for Youthwork in the UK here.
Its well worth a read. I have also ordered a copy of Mark Smith and Tony Jeff's excellent work Youthwork by British Association Of Social Workers - another that is well worth a read.

This was left in the Comments but I feel its worth a post...

Tony said...

Rumi says:
"Start a huge, foolish project,
like Noah.
It makes absolutely no difference
what people think of you."

Here's the complete poem - one of my favorites:

These spiritual window shoppers,
who idly ask, 'How much is that?' Oh, I'm just looking.
They handle a hundred items and put them down,
shadows with no capital.
What is spent is love and two eyes wet with weeping.
But these walk into a shop,
and their whole lives pass suddenly in that moment,
in that shop.
Where did you go? "Nowhere."
What did you have to eat?
"Nothing much."
Even if you don't know what you want,
buy _something,_ to be part of the exchanging flow.
Start a huge, foolish project,
like Noah.
It makes absolutely no difference
what people think of you.
